Captain McQuades

An American platoon patrol led by Captain McQuade, near Shudergay Villiage, Nuristan, came under machine gun, rocket propelled grenade and sniper fire from an insurgent force nearly twice its size. As bullets ricocheted around him, Captain McQuade calmly coordinated the evacuation of the wounded; directed artillery, mortar and close-air support; all while receiving well aimed small arms and machine gun fire from insurgents dug into the high ground around the village. Seventeen hours and one emergency resupply of ammunition later, the platoon turned the tide of the fight and routed the insurgent force.
Captain McQuade’s inspiring leadership and conspicuous gallantry under withering enemy fire is in keeping with the finest traditions of heroic leadership in combat!
